James F. Parker, Jr. is a percussion educator and active performer in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. A native of Lake City, South Carolina, Parker holds a Associate of Arts Degree in Music Education from The University of the District of Columbia (UDC).
As an educator, Parker conducts percussion workshops for High School and Middle School Drumlines and teaches private Drumset lessons. Through his career, he has served as percussion advisor to local Band Directors in Washington, DC and Maryland. Parker was Director of Percussion at the Columbia Heights Educational Campus (CHEC) in Washington, DC from 2009 - 2018.
Highlights of Mr. Parker's performance career include: being a selected member of the Walt Disney World All-American Collegiate Marching Band for the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Epcot Center; performing with the WPAS Men & Women of the Gospel at the Kennedy Center, and performing with "3 Mo~La~Dic Divas + 1" at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. Currently, Parker plays Drumset & Percussion at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church most Sundays, and atSt. George's Episcopal Church for Christmas and Easter services. He is in his 18th year as a Snare Drummer for the Washington Redskins Marching Band. Mr. Parker has recorded with Sister Strengthening Sister, The Redeeming Souls, M. Clinton Stinson, & The UDC "Striders" Marching & Concert Bands.
James F. Parker, Jr. is a All Access Friend and a Silver Most Valuable Member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) and a Associate Member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
